What Does The Muffler And Exhaust System Do?

Your muffler system has several purposes. We normally think of it as a way to reduce the noises that come out of the car when we drive. Besides this, it also aids in keeping some of the harmful emissions that come from your car from entering the atmosphere.

Right behind your engine is where the exhaust system actually starts. It collects the exhaust gases and then they go through the whole exhaust system. The catalytic converter refines the gases and then the muffler's job is to muffle the sound and make the car much quieter. The emissions system is also designed to make the car run much quieter, cleaner and a lot smoother.

Any part of the muffler and exhaust system can have a problem. When there is something that is not working properly, then it can affect both the air quality outside and the gas mileage the car is able to get.
